Need Help Moving — Part 3

A caveat to begin with — moving is stressful on everybody in the house including the dogs, the cats, and the goldfish. Ok, maybe not the goldfish as they don’t seem to be flustered about anything.

Because moving is stressful, do not think you have to do this overnight. Plan your writing and write your plan.

We said this in our first two posts, but we will say it again here. PEN AND PAPER are your friends.

Here are a few things that our family does as we plan what to move. However, one more thing to think about. If you have all the room in the world, then you really don’t have to worry about getting rid of stuff. Pack it all and move it across the country where it will sit comfortably in a storage unit somewhere else.

1) Important papers — Slap red, green, or yellow labels ALL over the box so you do not have even the slightest chance that you will lose it. Then, put it in the closet of your master bedroom with a big sign that says, “DO NOT DISTURB!”

Speaking from experience, it is not any fun when you get to where you are going or in all the fuss of moving, you lose or misplace passports, birth certificates, or all of the extensive research you have done on your genealogy.
